Starting from the very peculiar situation concerning the documentation in this peculiar artistic field, the author proposes a critical balance (as well as a bibliographical update) of the concrete aspects of this imitation and its limits, at the same time in the Middle Ages and, with a very different ambition, in Renaissance Europe and beyond. |
