Title: L’hermétisme à la Renaissance
Author: Tannier, Bernard
Description: The iconological analysis of three emblems on the theme of “silence” shows the various elements constituing this Renaissance hermeticism in which neo-platonism, neo-phytagorism, hermeticism and the Kabbala are blended. But why do we find this constant plea for silence in this corpus long considered as an echo of christianity? This may be due to the fact that the traditional world picture stressing the link between microcosm and macrocosm was thought to allow a possibility of magical action to those who had a perfect command of it. This is an age when knowledge was synonymous with power.
