| Description: | This article examines how intimacy and sexuality, friendship and love relate to each other in medieval aristocratic poetry. The article shows that the concept of courtly love as developed in the 12th century was strongly influenced by the ancient discourse on male friendship. Essentially, the medieval notion of courtly love can be understood as a heterosexual transformation of a male homosocial ethos of friendship. This constellation, in which the status of sexuality is highly precarious, can be explained using the theses Niklas Luhmann suggested in his book "Love as passion" (1982). Luhmann distinguishes between three historic stages of the love discourse: the courtly love of the Middle Ages, the impassioned love of early modernity and romantic love of the 19th C., which informs the discourse on love still today. In contrast to Luhmann's thesis of successive stages of the love discourse, the article demonstrates that all three forms were simultaneously present in the courtly poetry of the Middle Ages. ; Dieser Beitrag untersucht das Verhältnis von Intimität und Sexualität, Freundschaft und Liebe in der mittelalterlichen Adelsdichtung. Er zeigt, dass das Konzept der höfischen Liebe, das im 12. Jahrhundert entwickelt wurde, unter dem Einfluss des antiken Freundschaftsdiskurses steht. Im Grunde ist die höfische Liebe des Mittelalters als heterosexuelle Transformation eines Freundschaftsethos zu verstehen, das ursprünglich für Männer reserviert war. Diese Konstellation, in der Sexualität eine prekäre Rolle einnimmt, wird mit Hilfe der Thesen erläutert, die Niklas Luhmann in seinem Buch "Liebe als Passion" (1982) formuliert hat. Luhmann unterscheidet drei historische Stufen des Liebesdiskurses: die höfische Liebe des Mittelalters, die passionierte Liebe der frühen Neuzeit und die romantische Liebe des 19. Jahrunderts, die bis heute den Liebesdiskurs prägt. Im Gegensatz zur Luhmanns These des Nacheinanders zeigt der Beitrag, dass in der mittelalterlichen Poesie alle drei Formen der Liebe gleichzeitig vorhanden waren. |
