| Beschreibung | Chronique bibliographique ; International audience ; Increased public interest has undoubtedly abetted the recent multiplication of studies on landscape in a number of fields. If it might be more purposeful to examine in detail the place of art history in the renewal of such research, on can at least note, in English literature in particular, a progressively stronger focus on the value of landscape as a social and cultural product and on its ideological implications. The theory of the invention of landscape in the Renaissance, supported in France by Augustin Berque and Alain Roger among others, must be challenged: it perpetuates a number of claims inherited from nineteenth-century historiography, including the works of Burckhardt, and presupposes a “secularization” of nature in contradiction with the religious dimension of landscape in painting. Rather, one should investigate the role of antique models in the artistic and cultural development of landscape at that period, following the various research perspectives outlined here. ; Les travaux sur le paysage se sont récemment multipliés dans de nombreuses disciplines, à la faveur d'un intérêt grandissant du public. S'il conviendrait d'analyser en détail la place de l'histoire de l'art dans le renouvellement des recherches, on note en tout cas, dans la littérature anglophone en particulier, une attention de plus en plus forte à la valeur du paysage comme production sociale et culturelle et à ses implications idéologiques. La thèse de la découverte du paysage à la Renaissance, notamment défendue en France par Augustin Berque et Alain Roger, doit être remise en question : elle reconduit certains postulats hérités de l'historiographie du XIXe siècle, dont Burckhardt, et suppose une « laïcisation » de la nature que dément la dimension religieuse du paysage en peinture. Il faudrait au contraire enquêter sur le rôle des modèles antiques dans le développement artistique et culturel du paysage à cette époque, selon différentes perspectives de recherche ici esquissées. | - |
