In restricting the study to monasteries in Northern and Western Europe, it will allow for a deeper focus into the monasteries that relied on ale rather than wine. The driving goal is to research the implications of “bread and water” as a punishment that signifies more than a bland diet, but instead punishes wayward monks with a insufficient nutrients that had potential for grave consequences. | - |
