Description | Gegenstand der Dissertation ist das Mittelalter im Film. ; The silent films of Austrian-German filmmaker Fritz Lang constantly evolve around mediaeval themes and motifs. But Lang’s encounters with the past become more and more encounters with one’s own otherness. In his films from the 1910s and 20s the Middle Ages and the Orient become somehow exchangeable. They are constantly mixed and intertwined, as Lang’s exotic films often additionally transfer their settings to the past and his historic films portrait pastness as an exotic setting. Six examples show, how the past thereby becomes a place no longer similar to the present. | - |
